Shri Kalighat Kali
Shakti Peedam
The Sacred Abode of Dakshina Kalika,
Right Foot Toes Descent, Nakuleshwar Guard & Adi Ganga Grace

THE SACRED STORY OF MAA DAKSHINA KALIKA
Following Goddess Sati's self-immolation at Daksha's sacrificial altar, Lord Shiva was consumed by absolute grief and wandered the cosmos carrying her lifeless form, threatening cosmic dissolution.
To protect the universe, Lord Vishnu used his Sudarshana Chakra to divide Sati's physical shell into 51 sacred parts. During this division, the Right Foot Toes (Dakshina Pada-angula) descended upon the banks of the Adi Ganga channel of the Hooghly River in Kolkata.
This holy site became the legendary Kalighat Kali Temple. Worshipped as Maa Dakshina Kalika, the unique image of the Goddess features three huge eyes, a long gold tongue, and four hands, while Lord Shiva guards the threshold as Bhairava Nakuleshwar.
During Lord Shiva's Tandava of grief bearing Devi Sati, Lord Vishnu's Sudarshana Chakra divided her form into 51 sacred Shakti Peedams.
Mother Sati's Sacred Right Foot Toes (Dakshina Pada-angula) descended upon the holy banks of the Adi Ganga in Kolkata.
Presided over by Maa Dakshina Kalika and guarded by Lord Nakuleshwar Bhairava, this supreme seat offers absolute liberation, destruction of fear, and divine motherly grace.
